Story 1:
I woke up at 2 a.m. with 18 missed calls from my daughter and a text message: “Dad, help me! Come quickly!!” I raced to her place like a madwoman. My daughter and her fiancé looked at me in surprise. She said, “I didn’t even text you!”
When I showed her the message, she turned deathly pale. “That’s Amy’s phone number, Dad!” she said. We looked deep into each other’s eyes. Amy was my youngest daughter. She died in a car accident last year. She was only 19.
Tears welled up in my eyes. But as I left her place, I received another message and froze. It read: “I’m still waiting. Where are you?”
I quickly called the number. A young woman answered, crying. Her car had broken down in the middle of nowhere, and she had tried to ask her father for help.
When she got Amy’s old number, she accidentally dialed mine – still saved under “Dad.” I cried all night. For a brief moment, it felt as if Amy had reached me from beyond the grave, as if she were alive again, even if only for a fleeting instant.
Story 2:
My father got married a few years ago. I then noticed some strange connections to her on Facebook, and it eventually turned out that my new stepmother happens to be my ex-girlfriend’s second cousin. So we’re related by marriage. © Unknown Author / Reddit
Story 3:
When I was 32, my parents told me that my father wasn’t my biological father and that my mother had undergone in-vitro fertilization. They also told me that my aunt had done the same for her two children. I never gave it much thought until a month ago when my cousin took a DNA test and found out who her donor was. I recently took the same DNA test, and it turns out she’s biologically my sister, and her brother was conceived by a different donor. I now have over 100 brothers and sisters. I should add that it’s been about two and a half years since my parents first told me.

I could never understand why my biological father hated my stepmother’s sister so much. Eventually, my biological mother told me that my stepmother’s sister had been in a relationship with my father and had cheated on him. She introduced my stepmother to my father as a consolation prize.
And I have to keep all of this a closely guarded secret from my stepmother. © youmeanthatwimpydeer / Reddit
Story 5:
My mother disowned my sister because she became pregnant out of wedlock. (My sister later married him and had three more children with him.)
About twenty years later, we found out that my mother had to marry my father because—wait for it—she had become pregnant out of wedlock. By my sister. © dramboxf / Reddit
Story 6
One morning I was driving to work on my usual highway. As I drove along, I noticed a passenger in the back of the car in front of me who seemed to be staring at me. I was driving at about 105 km/h, and while my eyesight isn’t bad, it’s not perfect either. Nevertheless, I had the impression that this person was staring intently at me.
At first, I didn’t pay much attention, thinking it might just be a child or someone trying to annoy other drivers in the morning. But the closer I got, the more I realized the passenger wasn’t moving. Even closer, I saw what it really was: The car’s owner had replaced the rear headrest with a fully made-up mannequin head… looking backward.
In seventh grade, I became friends with a man who was in two of my classes. One day, I was chatting with him during lunch when I glanced around the cafeteria and saw him sitting at another table. I was totally surprised and turned around—and there he was, sitting at my table.
As it turns out, he had a twin brother, which is why I had one class with him and another with his brother. I didn’t find this out for about two weeks. © SonOfTheNorthe / Reddit
Story 8:
I dated someone for a few months last year, and things were going pretty well between us. Suddenly, he became very cold and distant, and I thought I’d done something wrong. Shortly after, he posted a photo on Facebook of himself kissing a woman, and they’ve been together ever since. © nicksbrunchattiffany / Reddit
Story 9:
I was always very close to my aunt and her children (my cousins). My mother died when I was 8 years old, and I found out that my aunt was my biological mother and that I was adopted because my adoptive mother couldn’t have children. Because of this experience (and my background), I suffer from severe depression and anxiety.
Story 10:
On my first day at university in a new city, I met a great guy. We had the same dark sense of humor and became friends immediately. Months later, my father died suddenly. I went back to my family and missed a lot of university as a result.
After the funeral, I was sitting with my whole family when a friend called. I told him I’d been away because of a death in the family. Suddenly, he started bombarding me with questions—who had died, whether it was my father, what his name was. I was confused and asked him what was going on.
It turned out that his parents had been at my father’s funeral. He was a cousin I hadn’t known. It was a wonderful moment of connection during a difficult time. It felt like a fairy tale.
